HOW TO HAVE A GREAT (SMALL) WEDDING

There is no doubt that weddings today are expensive, some easily into the $20,000.00 price range. (And that's if you live somewhere in a simple rural area; big cities may be twice the amount.) Recently, people have begun to analyze some of the astronomical figures and become more introspective. They start to realize life is short, nothing is certain in life, and the prices for a traditional wedding might cost them their life!

Is There Such A Thing As A Small Wedding?
Therefore, "small" weddings are becoming very popular. Small weddings can refer to the total number of guests, or to a unique or more personal ceremony that also saves thousands of dollars in the long run. Reactions to small wedding vary greatly. Some people view them with contempt; what grand wedding day is small? It's a once in a lifetime experience! How can you be so cheap? While others are more respectful, knowing that love is the more important thing and not the total amount of the check.

When planning a small wedding remember to invite as many friends and family as you possibly can. The ones that aren't invited might hold a grudge, and some gossip could start floating around about you or your family's skimpiness. But who really cares what other people think? It is, after all, your wedding day and nobody else's. This should be at least one day of your whole life when you're the only one in control.

Think Outside The Box
A small wedding doesn't mean a Vegas Chapel Elvis Wedding, nor does it mean a quick visit to the Justice of the Peace. It can be an elegant affair held at an equally beautiful destination. There have been smaller weddings held in restaurants, gardens, bed and breakfasts inns, wedding chapels, museums, trains and boats. A lot of these places cater to "small" weddings, which is why they don't blatantly advertise their wedding accommodations and get requests for hundreds of guests. Other couples have been content to have their wedding at a relative or friend's house, which costs nothing and can be easily prettied up to be a respectable venue for a small wedding. Last but not least, if you really want to make your small wedding memorable, think about a destination wedding. Traveling with just a few families to an exotic location can be fun and much less expensive than a traditional wedding.

Having a small wedding emphasizes the theme of love and family over beauty and glory. If it suits you why not have the kind of wedding you and your family will be comfortable with and save the rest of the money for the honeymoon?
